CLJ Games: Environmental Board-games

My 3 homeschooled grandkids, now 15, 19 and 21 invented an environmental board game over 7 years that fits the grade 3 through 12 Science/biology curriculum. The game can be played with 2-4 individuals, or 2-4 groups, and can take 20 minutes to play a season or 2,  or a school hour to play a year, or 1-2 hours to play the complete game which is 4 years. Players build a diverse forest with predators, prey and trees expanding lands etc.  They learn to love nature and experience what a balanced ecosystem is. Dangers threaten such as illegal logging, poaching, etc. The winner is the one with the most diverse balanced forest with points from having predators, prey land, trees and enough money to pay their workers. All materials are made from sustainable forests.  It is FSC approved and 10% goes to Wilderness and Raincoast.

A game is $59.95 plus tax.

Participants will learn about the support and services that ERAC offers.   Search the K12 Evaluated Resource Collection, learn how to access and use the BC Digital Classroom.

Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People is the only theatre company on Vancouver Island that provides a full theatrical experience for young audiences, with all main stage performances being offered in the McPherson Playhouse. We offer two school performances per year, one in the late fall and one in early spring, in addition to our public performances and winter musical. These performances are accompanied by study guides and plans to help integrate them into class lessons.

In addition to our professional performances, Kaleidoscope works with teachers to bring professional actors and designers into schools to give workshops and lessons, and runs after-school classes for audiences aged 2 to 17 in theatre, musical theatre, and voice lessons.

The Elementary Woodshop

The Elementary Woodshop, a Vancouver Island company, has designed a woodworking program for students in K-7 to address the Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (ADST) curriculum.  Teachers with no woodworking experience can now teach ADST with pre-cut, pre-drilled woodworking kits for their students accompanied by cross-curricular workbooks. Numerous subjects are included in each workbook and all have a lesson in Aboriginal perspectives and knowledge and introduce students to hands-on learning and the world of trade careers.  The Elementary Woodshop will be offering workshops at Tapestry 2019 and teachers will have the opportunity to build their own confidence in woodworking by building a project.  Please drop by our table and see the woodworking projects students across BC are building and our door prize of 24 locomotive kits for your class!
