Summative Assessments in Math using the Core Competencies

Gain some fresh ideas on how to integrate B.C. Curriculum's Core Competencies into your daily teaching and summative assessments in Grades 7-12 Math. This workshop will give you samples of tests, quizzes, projects, games, math modelling activities and technology play which include the Core Competencies: Reasoning and Analyzing, Understanding and Solving, Communicating and Representing, and Connecting and Reflecting. Some amazing real-world problems using math modelling explorations will include integration with science, business, and economics.Ready-to-go assessments with rubrics will be shared.

  • Susan Smith

    Susan Smith is a math teacher at Oak Bay High School, but also loves to teach physics and science!  She has been on some math textbook writing teams for Nelson Thomson Learning as well as the B.C Ministry of Education website in Mathematics learning.  Susan has given math workshops for teachers at both the University of Victoria and the University of Waterloo.  She loves to share her creative math teaching ideas!  When not teaching, Susan enjoys the outdoors with her family on beautiful Vancouver Island where she lives.
