Making Handmade Books

Learn to make books with your class that can be used to extend storytelling or project presentation. Using easily found items in the classroom (like paper and art materials), you will learn to make 2 simple handmade books that can be used in various ways to suit learning outcomes. The workshop demonstrates 2 different types of books – the pamphlet stitch and accordion - plus variations of the books. The only specialty item needed would be bookbinding needles that can be ordered online.

To Bring/Important Notes

If you would like follow along and make the books during the workshop, you will need:

- 25 sheets of photocopy paper (81/2x11)

- 4 sheets of card stock (any colour). This will be the covers of the books.

- straight bookbinding needle (available from OPUS Art supplies or online)

- variety of coloured embroidery floss
