Project -Re- Generation: Learning through Community-based Regenerative Action Projects

This workshop unpacks the learning and design process behind community-based regenerative action projects and explores its impacts on both students and community members alike. Students learn by doing: exploring and connecting to ‘place’, engaging with community experts, and collaboratively working through the design process of investigating and responding to a sustainability challenge of their choosing. Through this, students build an understanding of systems and the principles of sustainability while cultivating the critical skills increasingly essential to thrive in our ever-changing world. Along with adaptability and systems thinking, specific emphasis is given to the ‘Four C’s’: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. 


As part of the workshop we will apply this process through an example and encourage participants to do the same. We will also explore how the process could be adapted to meet diverse needs of educators and educational organizations.

  • Charlotte Fesnoux

    Charlotte has always had a deep appreciation for, and sense of wonderment and awe in, the natural world. In her adult life she has sought to inspire others to connect to and love the environment. Charlotte has a BA in Environmental Geography from Simon Fraser University, 2012 and a BEd and IB certification from the University of British Columbia, 2017. Charlotte’s journey to become an educator began in 2011 at Simon Fraser University where she participated in a unique program: Semester in Dialogue. Dialogue aims to inspire active community engagement through meaningful dialogue and experiential learning. This exceptional experience played a pivotal role in her decision to later become an educator, and has profoundly influenced her pedagogical ethos and direction. Coupled with Dialogue, Charlotte’s experience teaching at Green School Bali – in 2014 and 2018, developed her expertise as an immersive, place- and project-based learning facilitator. In September 2019, Charlotte and her partner moved from Vancouver to Thetis Island, and has been working with the Thetis Island Nature Conservancy as program coordinator/facilitator and covering as a teacher-on-call at Thetis Island Elementary. 

  • Noan Fesnoux


    Noan has been working as an educator since 2003. With a degree in Marine Biology from Guelph University and a Masters in Educational Technology from the University of British Columbia, Noan consistently brings students into the only classroom that really matters: nature. He has worked with multiple startups in building bespoke programs tailored to the needs of the organization. In Vancouver, he helped establish Little Mountain Learning Academy, bringing the school from inception to one with 130 students. Over eight years at Green School Bali, Indonesia, Noan developed an impactful experiential learning program for students Grade 6-12, LEAP Academy. He moved to Budapest in July 2019 to start up the REAL School of Budapest, Hungary, a K-12 academic institution with a focus on sustainability and project-based learning.
