Creating Cultures of Peace

In line with the big ideas and core competencies of the revised curriculum, this interactive workshop provides resources for teachers and their students to create peaceful learning communities, and to discuss current global realities. Activities will incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and discuss the effects of war and violence on children and youth. Lesson sequences will be provided and explored surrounding the Palestine-Israel Conflict, and Olympic Truce, which was recently revived by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to emphasize the role sport can play in building a more peaceful world.

  • Rina Chawla

    Rina Chawla is a High School Science and Math teacher in the Surrey School District. She is a mother of three and is a Radio Show Host with KRPI 1550 in BC, and addresses a range of social and personal topics in English and Punjabi, engaging audiences from all around the world. She is the Resource Person at UGC India, and is invited to facilitate workshops at universities all across India. In addition, she has been on the Executive of the Surrey Teachers' Association and is also heavily involved with the BC Teachers' Federation, and delivers speeches and workshops on soft skills, interpersonal and communication skills, to teachers, parents and students across the province.
